Company Profile
Company Overview
General Compression ("GC") was founded with the vision of creating Dispatchable Wind™, an idea that wind energy, one of the most abundant sources of renewable energy in the world, can be transformed from its intermittent nature into a predictable energy source able to meet the dispatch requirements of the utility grid. Recognizing that the key to expanding clean power is stabilizing power output from wind and other variable sources, General Compression developed the General Compression Advanced Energy Storage (GCAESTM) system to store large quantities of energy from wind farms and make it available on demand. General Compression's first project is currently under construction, and we are planning to begin development of a large-scale commercial project in late 2011. We are working in partnership with major utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), and gas storage operators across North America and Europe to evaluate a number of sites where GCAES™ can firm intermittent power and provide reliable, Dispatchable Wind™.
Company History
Founded in 2006, General Compression was launched with a vision of creating Dispatchable Wind to integrate low-cost bulk storage with wind farms to eliminate the issues of intermittent renewable power generation. General Compression has made patent-pending advancements in the fields of isothermal compression and expansion to provide utility-scale storage for both renewable and conventional electricity sources.
General Compression is a project development company enabled by proprietary technology. Dispatchable Wind is firm, cost-competitive energy available on demand for any curve and time scale. Our projects are designed to set clean, domestic wind power on a path to become the dominant electric power generation source in the United States and abroad.
