We are a small and nimble team based in Seattle, WA. We serve clients across the U.S. including electric utilities, renewable energy developers, and other energy service providers. Engagements with clients last months to years, and we pride ourselves on building close, long-term relationships to support them at every stage of a project lifecycle.

Description of Work:
We are seeking a driven, independent team member with strong communication and customer empathy skills and demonstrated experience in energy storage and renewables analytics. Above all, we value individuals with high integrity, high competency, excellent communication skills, and curious minds.
This position will immediately join and lead client-facing projects that involve inverter-based resource modeling (technical and economic models), power system modeling, resource design, and dispatch and utilization analysis.
The person in this role will lead day-to-day project operations for some projects and support projects led by others as a subject matter expert. Project operations tasks involve managing regular client interactions and project scope, schedule, and budget. While this position will be focused on analytics, it may also involve engineering, research, or technology advisory work. SGP personnel are typically involved in 2 – 4 projects concurrently in a variety of roles.

We are looking for a combination of the following Core Skills and Technical Competencies (please consider applying if you meet a reasonable subset):
Core Skills
- Excellent listening and synthesis skills, especially working closely with clients to translate disparate regulatory, business, and power system objectives into a project work plan and assisting clients in navigating project work plans amidst ambiguity and uncertainty.
- Fluency and adaptability in presenting technical analysis, including context, approach, key findings, caveats, and recommended actions, to customers with diverse backgrounds including commercial and technical roles.
- Skill in communicating crisply and clearly via email, writing lucid and interesting technical reports, and summarizing complex analyses in presentations that put a course of action on strong technical footing.
- Ability to lead projects that require diverse competencies and multiple SGP team members including project planning and synthesizing multiple diverse technical inputs to meet project requirements.
- Technical project management: ability to advance project objectives through a combination of using technical knowledge, driving objective-oriented collaboration, and carefully tracking project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Comfort with uncertainty and experience making risk-adjusted and uncertainty-adjusted recommendations for action.
Technical Competencies
- Experience developing and using techno-economic modeling and analytics tools in Excel (required) and Python (preferred), or MATLAB, R, or related language, with specific experience in inverter-based resource and related analytics.
- Modeling of electric power systems
- Energy flow modeling and value analysis of storage and solar + storage projects in support of optimal design and project development activities
- Time-series modeling of storage dispatch strategies
- Analysis and dispatch optimization of operational resources
- Experience using common utility and electrical market data sources and formats, electrical calculations, and financial metrics used in energy project modeling.
- Experience or familiarity with Benefit-Cost Analysis to support policy analysis and utility regulatory proceedings.
- Experience or familiarity with analytics and policy in one or more wholesale electric power markets or inverter-based resource operations at an electric utility.
- Experience or significant exposure to electric utility operations including typical technical, business, and regulatory practices in the electric utility industry.
- Knowledge of the evolving landscape for electric utilities, grid modernization and regulatory trends.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years of practical experience working with energy storage and/or renewables analytics in an electric utility, project developer, regulatory, or technology company.
- BS or MS degree or equivalent expertise in power systems engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, statistics, physics, economics, or related field is required.
- Additional credentials such as a graduate level degree, professional certification/licensure (such as Professional Engineer) or equivalent in-depth experience, while not required, are considered a plus.
Additional Information:

Our work environments include a Seattle, WA office (typically used for 1 - 5 days/week by Seattle-based employees at their preference) and home offices, with travel from 2 - 5% for client visits and conferences. Compensation:
SGP offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Total annual compensation for this role is expected to be between $150,000 - $275,000 depending on company performance inclusive of a base salary and quarterly profit sharing. SGP also offers health care insurance and a retirement savings plan with a company match of up to 5% of employee compensation.
